NOUN DECRIES DISCRIMINATION AGAINST ITS GRADUATES - EMERGED 23RD OUT OF 100 BEST UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

The National Open University (NOUN) has lamented the discrimination of its graduates by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigerian Law School.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Vincent Ado Tenebe, made this known last weekend at the 5th Annual Convocation ceremony of the school, held in Abuja.

He said graduates of the university who are 30 years and below are not given equal opportunity with their fellow graduates from regular universities to participate in the NYSC while the law graduates are also barred from attending the Nigerian Law School, making it impossible for them to qualify as practicing lawyers.

According to him, a search through the web shows that there are 59 open universities in countries throughout the world and there is no evidence that graduates of their open universities are treated differently from the graduates of their traditional regular universities.

The VC therefore called on the appropriate agencies responsible for NYSC and legal education in the country, to reconsider their positions, especially against the background of the “latest results of University Rankings” by Webometrics which placed NOUN as number 23 out of the “100 Best Universities in Nigeria for 2015

Meanwhile, at the convocation, former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, bagged a Masters Degree in Christian Theology, just as 15 others graduated with First Class Honours, out of the 10, 653 total number of graduands.

Prof.Tenebe said that the former President will continue with his PhD, having been given admission to study MA/PhD.

The school gave special recognition to other outstanding graduands like Rear Admiral Orisha, over 70-year old man who made a First Class in mathematics and Udo Ukeme Effiong, who was the best graduating student with 4.71, being the highest score in First Class Grade.

NOUN STUDENTS LAMENT ISSUES WITH REMITA PAYMENTS - HOW TO MAKE EASY PAYMENT WITH REMITA

The issue of Remita is a new development in the system of Noun payment. According to the explanation given, there are two types of remita.

1. Graduands Remita
2.. Active Remita.

Before further explanation of the two above... What is remita?

Remita is an e-Payments and e-Collections solution on a single multi-bank
platform.
Remita is a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) licensed e-payment platform that
makes it very EASY for all types of organizations (Big or small, private or
public, profit oriented or NGO, etc.) and individuals RECEIVE and MAKE
PAYMENT without any stress.

Since you have known what it is, as e-payment, e-collection, etc.

Graduands Remita.... It is a Remita Repayment Reference (RRR) code generated for graduating students, in this category of students, it may show that the student is owning the institution be it project balance, Jamb, industry Training fees, etc. In this stage the students did not to pay any money into he or her  portal straight. The website for doing that.
www.remita.net

Active Remita... It is generated by the student who is still in the battle front of his academic program within the category of 100 to 400level. The RRR is generated from his personal portal. This RRR is use during payment of curse or examination registration even compulsory fees. Without this code payment can't be completed.

PROCEDURE
1. Log-In To The Registration Portal
2. Click on Make Payment On Remita link.
3. Enters The Amount You want To Pay In The Provided Input Box
4. Clibck On Generate Remita Payment Reference(RRR) Button.
5. Write Down The Displayed Payment Reference Number (RRR) .
6. Go To Any Commercial Bank Branch To Make Payment On The Remita

7. After Making Payment, It will reflect In The Student's e-Wallet Within 15mins.
Note: Payments can also be made from Internet Banking Applications using the
generated RRR
All you have to do is to write the remita number and proceed to the bank. You don't need to write matric number again because you generated the number within your portal.

On that gathering departmental association was encouraged as the way to improve students learning, According to Owerri Councillor through students gathering learning will be more possible and attractive.
All students are encouraged to study hard that is the only way one can make it.

Civil Society Condemns Media Blackmail of NOUN Leadership

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CCSG) has called on Nigeria security agencies to commence proper investigation against those behind the current media blackmail going on against the leadership of the National Open University of Nigeria.
While addressing the press in Abuja today, the president Comrade Etuk Bassey Williams said it findings revealed that some students of the University with unresolved disciplinary problems are behind the blackmail to taint and discredit the image of the institution and its leadership.
Bassey wondering why some students would want to run down an institution like the NOUN which remains one of the cheapest distant learning institutions in the world despite it comparably world standard just for personal reasons.
He said the importance of the institution to Nigerians was the major reason the coalition took time to investigate the allegations, adding that the allegations are pure blackmail bereft of facts as all payments to the institution are done online, which implies that records of payments made to the institution by students are traceable.
He said the several innovations brought to bear on the institution by Prof. Vincent Tenebe, are legendary and should be embraced by all.
“We condemn in its entirety the continuous media blackmail of the institutions’ leadership by these students and their sponsors with the aim of discrediting the good works so far achieved in this institution.
“This unethical conduct of blackmailing credible and hardworking Nigerians is fast becoming the order of the day andits time this is nipped in the bud because of the unquantifiable damage this would have on the reputation of upright and committed individuals since not all government officials are corrupt.
“All fees paid to the institutions are legally approved statutory fees payable online only to the institution’s account and all expenditure spending follows due process.
“NOUN based on our findings remains one of the cheapest distant learning institutions in the world thereby affording Nigerians not only the opportunity to work and learn but access to cheap and qualitative education owning to its strict compliance with global best practices made possible by the innovations introduced into the system by the Prof. Vincent Tenebe led leadership, which has seen the institution more than double its study centres from 36 to 76 nationwide, achieve an unprecedented increase in the number of students’ enrolment and 100% success in accreditation of courses the NUC,” he said.
